His love for travel and sports took him on many adventures, and his sense of humor brightened the lives of those around him. On September 11, 2012, Derrick's journey of love reached new heights when he married the love of his life, Bridgette Jordan.

Barnes, and his devoted siblings, Heather (Milton) Taylor and Johnathan Smith, will forever hold him close in their hearts.

Derrick's extended family included four step-grandchildren, Rasheeda, Ayana, Amaya, and Marcus, and four great-grandchildren, Deon, Ari Marie, Amour, and Ryder, who will grow up with stories of his love and laughter. His family network also includes two sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, two aunts, three uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who will continue to celebrate his life.
